100 Pairs!

Towards the end of last week Sis Style sold its 100th pair of Sis Style Earrings!!!  That's over 100 pairs in about 1 months time!  I am just so so thankful for all of your love & support.  I started making the earring as a fun side project, wanted to simply have some content for my new blog, and figured maybe a few friends would want a pair.  Already about 35 different styles have sold out, with about 30 styles left to choose from.

You girls wearing these earrings all over town, sharing with friends, and posting about them on your Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest pages has really been the recipe for my success.  I cannot thank you enough, and just hope I can continue coming up with more styles for you to love & you keep spreading the word.  Speaking of new styles....I am working on posting the new:
"100th Pair Anniversary Styles".  Stay tuned!

Wreath Update

A few weeks ago in this post, I gave a quick "how to" on burlap wreath making and showed pics of the one I whipped up super quick.  I love making these; easy, and can transform any old plain front door.  A friend of mine requested that I make her a custom one for the condo she and her husband were about to put on the market.  Turned out really cute/rustic/classic Americana looking, and just adds the perfect touch to their front door.  Though I will miss them as neighbors, I am hoping this will act as a lucky charm that helps sells the place quickly!

Floral Frenzy

So the blogs I follow have all been buzzing over the new floral jean/pant trend.  I've seen it all over Pinterest as well, and wasn't sold on it just yet.  However, seeing it done right like on all these ladies, makes me want them and envy these fab looks.  Certainly plenty of great styles to choose from out there, ie: 7 Brand and ASOS.  Pick your favorite pair and team it with a great simple T or blouse.  What do you think, you willing to rock these?

Time For Color

Images via Pinterest.
It's about that time.  Spring is here, and Summer is on it's way.  Time to add in some serious or subtle color highlights in your home for the season.  For me, I have decided that I want to start adding some subtle hints of light blue all around my apartment.  I also added some creme and light yellow colored throw pillows I made myself, to my living room chairs.

Changing up your throw pillows is probably the easiest way to do it.  Or you can always bring in some new spring/summer style chotchkies!  Cause who doesn't love chotchkies?  (I'm envisioning my friends husband scowling when my friend rolls in with a ton of fresh home goods, and thinking: Dammit, I bet Sarah encouraged her to do that!)

Oh well!  Good thing no men or husbands read this blog!  Hmmm wait, does anyone read this blog?  Well, if you're out there- picking new fresh paint colors, new rugs, and pillows is always fun and if your place needs a spring/summer makeover, then do it girlfriend!  These pictures instantly brightened my mood!

Envious

Love them or loath them, the Olsen sisters are a fashion power house.  What lucky girls they are with their endless closets, amazing companies, and billions.  Though they have never been my personal celebrity favorites, these girls have impressed me over and over again with their smart and savvy business moves and fashion brands I adore.

Their couture fashion label "The Row", contemporary collection "Elizabeth & James", and t-shirt line "StyleMint" are insanely successful and inspired by many of their own unique vintage finds and pieces in their personal wardrobes.  These are girls who are not afraid to take chances with fashion, each have a style that is completely unique, and seem to be old souls in their vision, yet they are only in their early 20's.  Extreme levels of business success + fashion + family = doesn't get much better than that!

HAPPY HUNGER GAMES!

I think I am probably the last girl in America to jump on The Hunger Games train.  For months, friends have been telling me I needed to read the series, that it was fantastic, and that I would for sure love it.  For whatever reason though, I really was hesitant because I have a true distaste for anything science fiction or fantasy(Harry Potter).

I couldn't have been more wrong with my hesitations and assumptions.  I read this book in one night and loved it Twilight style, meaning I'm hooked, I'm on board.  Secondly, I can't get enough of the perfect fashion choices the actresses have made at the premiers. Seeing the movie tonight, and am most excited to see: the opening ceremonies, the weird Capital people, the stylists, and the interviews.  Next on my reading to do list: Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.  Any other "must reads" I need to know about?

Blog Spotlight: ModaFresca

I got an email yesterday that seriously just made my day!  The owner of LOTUS boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina where my Sis Style earrings are also sold, said that they were doing very well in the store.  And that actually one of the customers who bought them featured them on her popular fashion blog: ModaFresca.  Clearly I was so thrilled and also excited to hear that because of the pics on her blog, LOTUS had more requests for that particular pair.  So I filled the special order immediately and gushed over these pics of her wearing the "Sailor Sally" pair in two separate blog posts!
Instantly I fell in love with her blog and her style.  Her very true and inspiring "about me" section really sealed the deal for me though.  I could not love and agree with this more, she writes:

"My name is Melissa. Once upon a time I only wore over sized Grateful Dead t-shirts, men's jeans, and Birkenstock sandals. I can't pinpoint exactly how or when it happened, but somehow I morphed into a 31 year old woman who's love of clothes just inspired her to turn her guest bedroom into a closet. I used to think fashion was reserved solely for the rich and/or thin, of which I was neither. As I matured I realized that clothes were fun, they gave you an opportunity to do something different every single day; that fashion is art and that when you put a little effort and self expression into what you wear, you may even end up embracing your own "canvas" a little more. Fashion can be superficial, but it can also make you feel better about yourself and there is nothing wrong with that. Women who feel good about themselves propel the world. That being said, this is is just stuff I have and how I wear it. I hope you enjoy!"

Here is what Melissa(ModaFresca) had to say about her new Sis Style earrings in her blog posts:

"4. I got these earrings at LOTUS...very nautical don't you think? I LOVE THEM. I could not help but think of Goldie Hawn in "Overboard". You know...before she got knocked off the yacht, when she was all stuck up, showered in gold, and perfectly coiffed? Yup...very 1987. Neon isn't the only thing we are bringing back from the 1980's. These little cuties are going to be in heavy rotation for me this summer."

"My Stepmom saw these lovely little anchor earrings in my last post and she commented that she loves them and "reallllllllly" wants them. So, when I put them on I couldn't help but think that I should really be cleaning them with alcohol, wrapping them up, and "overnighting" them to NY. My Stepmom loves all things nautical. She loves the water, boats, sea animals, jet skiing, water skiing, and especially a good fruity, summer-time mixed drink. If it relates to the water...she loves it. So naturally she would immediately become obsessed with these nautical earrings. As a matter of fact, I thought of her as soon as I saw them. I am checking in to whether or not another pair exactly like them exists, but I got them from LOTUS who is notorious for getting one of a kind, unique pieces from vendors who only make one of everything. I love that about LOTUS, but I am going to be kind of bummed if this is the only pair that exist in the universe. So, if I can't find another pair of these earrings (that frankly, were made for her <not me>) these little suckers are getting cleaned up and shipped to NY."

Harness

I had the pleasure of attending the Bad Girl Ventures Cleveland spring 2012 unveiling ceremony last night.  What is Bad Girl Ventures you ask?   Well its awesome, but I took this info from the website to better explain.....

What we do...
Think Kiva.org meets The Apprentice. Bad Girl Ventures has created a micro-lending program where individuals can donate money to startup a company (BGV), but then watch that money fuel other startup companies. We have teamed that concept with a training program that will equip each participant with the tools to attain financing for her startup.

Why we do it...
While women make up 60% of the US population and earn 60% of all bachelor degrees, Ohio has struggled to find women to lead startup companies. This is not because women lack the ideas or the capacity. Women simply have a more difficult time finding financing. In fact, although women own 50% of all privately held companies, they have access to only 5% of traditional capital. Bad Girl Ventures is intended to be a highly localized micro-lending organization focused on woman-owned startups to address this disparity.

How we do it...Bad Girl Ventures combines micro-lending with a nine week business development course. Each three hour class is taught successful business owners and professionals from the local community with in-depth experience in their fields. Each class consists of a two hour classroom session followed by a one hour one-on-one coaching session where experts in the industry spend time answering questions in a "speed date" type setting. Each nine week course is held two to three times a year.

Finalist  As a finalist, you will attend the nine week business essentials course on scholarship and compete against 9 other women owned businesses in order to win a $25,000 loan. Finalists must participate in the application process and meet the following requirements:

    *majority women owned business
  • *in business for 5 years or less
  • *need for a $25,000 low interest loan
  • *attendance at and full completion of the 9 week course
  • After reviewing all applications submitted, 13 applicants are selected to participate in interviews and then 10 will be selected as finalists to attend the program on scholarship.  Each finalist is paired with a SCORE counselor to mentor her throughout the program and is expected to complete and submit by the end of the course, a homework assignment for each class, a business plan, a marketing plan, 5 year financial projections, and a SBA loan application.  At the end of the course each finalist will present to the investment committee who will determine who receives the $25,000 loan. The loan is awarded at a graduation celebrating the completion of the course.

Spotted: Girlfriend in a maxi skirt!
Anyways my super smart and darling bad girl friend Anne was chosen as a finalist and is in it to win it with her awesome company idea: Harness.  I could not be more happy for her and so proud of everything she is doing to get this great idea off the ground!  You can follow her journey on twitter: @Harnessfit, and who knows maybe one of these green, super cool energy generating spin studios will be in a city near you!  Not to mention she was the cutest presenter of the night with her bike dress!  God I love nothing more then dressing and accessorizing for themes.  You can pick up this super cute little number at Anthro.  You cant really tell but she is also sporting the Sis Style Knot Nikki earrings!

Eclectic & Electric

Check out these amazing pieces from DANNIJO.  I cannot get enough of the bohemian meets rocker, meets tribal, meets vintage vibe of all of their pieces!  Such a creative and artistic mash-up.  Not to mention the company is founded by two cute sisters with obvious great taste, who started selling their pieces in high school.  What's there not to love?  Well, the jewelry is not inexpensive, I guess that's the only bummer.  But if you are looking for a statement piece and willing to pay for quality and something really unique then here you go.

The Maxi Skirt

One of my best friends came in town to visit me recently and really got me thinking about this new spring trend.  According to her, the maxi skirt is already all over her city, her girlfriends are loving it, and rocking it both during the day and at night.  We all love a great maxi dress, with its grace and comfort, its a great "go-to" for any spring or summer event.  However I wasn't as sure about the maxi skirt, as Ive seen it done before and its just never really been my favorite look.

My friend actually ended up finding a really cute simple black pleated maxi skirt while here at one of my local boutiques.  After I saw the total look on her and paired it with the right top and accessories, I was instantly on board.  What do you think? Will you be struting your stuff in a maxi skirt this spring or summer?

Happy (early) St Patricks Day!

Lets be honest, I will be knee deep in St Patricks Day celebrations tomorrow, so I figured I'd get this post out a little early.  I love green, always have, always will, and not just on St Patricks day.  I love it because it brings out my green eyes, and I love it because there are so many great shades.  For years I wanted an army green colored car to match my eyes, and this past year I made it happen! (ha)

We all know mint green is very "in" right now and I couldn't be more thrilled.  And for the record mint and or lime flavored anything are always really good in my opinion.  If you know me well, you know I rarely concern myself with being environmentally conscious, so this is probably the closest thing to me "going green".  Enjoy.
