A week ago I posted pics of my apartment here, and committed to post a regular feature called "SIS' APT" where I show sneak peeks of my place! So this is the second post and this week I am showing one of my favorite pieces I own. Not only cute, but a DIY project I had a lot of fun doing, so all the more special. Enter my DIY Bar Hutch. I first saw this Bar Hutch from Pottery Barn and obsessed over the pictures, wishing it could be mine, if only it wasn't thousands of dollars.
So I scoured my favorite (more affordable) stores looking for something comparable, but couldn't find what I was looking for. So I checked out my local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, which has tons of diamonds in the rough, perfect for DIY projects. I found this nice and large, still in excellent condition, dresser/hutch combo for only $90. I thought about staining it a different color or sanding/scuffing it up to make it look more shabby, but decided I liked it just as it was.
After multiple trips to TJ's, Marshall's, Ikea, and my local antique store, I decked it out with all these great finds! I had hoped originally to do different kinds of letters like the Pottery Barn pic, but found mine at Chic Unique Home. After adding my own original pieces like my sorority(Theta Phi Alpha, holler) pitcher, hurricane glasses from one of my favorite stops in New Orleans Pat O'Brien's, and these adorable DIY chalkboard paint wine glasses my sister-in-law gave me for Christmas, I had the perfect bar hutch! I'm very happy with how it turned out, and now only need to add some great bottles of booze, and maybe more antique decanters. Hope you are inspired to DIY vs. BUY!
